AHBRSC and YMCA Halifax Launch Joint Pilot to Deliver CONSTRUCT Trades Training in Halifax
Halifax, NS – The Atlantic Home Building & Renovation Sector Council (AHBRSC) and YMCA Halifax/Dartmouth today announced a new pilot partnership to co-deliver two cohorts of the Ontario-based CONSTRUCT program in Halifax’s downtown wee Regional Municipality. Running from June 1 to October 31, 2025, this collaboration blends AHBRSC’s Tiny Home Construction Fundamentals (THCF) curriculum with Blue Door Support Services’s proven CONSTRUCT hybrid delivery model, creating an eight-week, paid trades-training pathway for Nova Scotians facing employment barriers.
“By embedding our THCF modules into the CONSTRUCT framework, we’re offering participants both foundational hybrid classroom instruction and real-world site experience, backed by wraparound supports,” said Jessica Ward, Operations & Project Development Manager at AHBRSC. “This pilot exemplifies how sector councils and community organizations can work together to build an inclusive, skilled workforce.”
Under the agreement:
- AHBRSC provides three weeks of core THCF curriculum (workplace culture, safety, tool use, basic framing), classroom space, materials and certified instructors.
- YMCA Halifax/Dartmouth manages participant recruitment and supports, delivers the remaining CONSTRUCT components (site placement, wraparound services), and oversees impact reporting.
Both partners will share data and jointly explore accreditation and future funding to scale training models like Tiny Home Construction Fundamentals (THCF) and CONSTRUCT province-wide. This initiative underscores AHBRSC’s commitment to innovative workforce development and YMCA Halifax/Dartmouth’s dedication to empowering underrepresented learners.
