Take the Residential Construction Site Manager Program – Level One

Recognition of Prior Learning Project

Last year, AHBRSC consulted with 75 home builders, renovators and developers employing more than 1200 tradespeople and contractors on new and more flexible training and certification options for carpentry programs in Nova Scotia. This research received strong support from participants and the broader residential construction industry. AHBRSC has been sharing the results of this research with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) in order that the resulting recommendations can be considered as the NSAA moves forward in its engagement with industry on proposed compulsory designation and specialization of the carpentry trade.

This year, again with support from Labour and Advanced Education’s RPL Unit, we’re looking at competency-based training models for other residential trades, starting with the Residential Construction Site Manager.

Residential Construction Site Manager Program

AHBRSC is currently offering a Residential Construction Site Manager (RCSM) program to anyone in the residential construction industry. This comprehensive program was originally developed by the Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) of Alberta, and has seen widespread success. Now, AHBRSC has partnered with PHBI to customize the program for Nova Scotia, including a detailed competency review by many well-known industry representatives in the province to develop alternative assessment options.

The Residential Construction Site Manager program is the first and only of its kind in Canada. It is comprised of three levels, and allows participants to attain the knowledge and skills they need to become a certified Residential Construction Site Manager and stand out as the best-in-class. AHBRSC is currently offering Level One of the three levels of the program. Level One includes the following modules:

  • Excavation and Foundation
  • Framing
  • Exterior Finishes
  • Mechanical
  • Interior Finishes
  • Test to Earn RCSM Level One Certification

This Level is completed via online training at your own pace. For most students, it takes about 15 to 20 hours to complete.

Program Funding Available

Until July 2016, the Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive (WIPSI) can cover the full training delivery costs of $1000 + tax per participant.
